The UP Police has decided to impose a blanket ban on the offering of Friday “namaaz” on roads across the state.
DGP OP Singh has issued directives to state police chiefs and other authorities to ensure that no religious congregations take place on the roads anywhere in the state.
DGP said Namaz or aarti aren’t ban on the road when special occasions and festivals but not a regular basis.
Giving permission for any congregation on special occasions would rest with the district authorities, he added.
Starting banned in Aligarh and Meerut, now efforts were on to enforce it across the state.
The Aligarh district administration had even issued a detailed circular banning namaaz on roads and it has been imposed successfully.
He asks holds a meeting with district officials clerics and mosque administration.
He said other religious communities not allow to hold similar gatherings on roads as it led to inconvenience to others.
