In some schools in Tamil Nadu, students made to wear color-code wrist bands.
There are different types of wrist bands like red, yellow, green and saffron. They indicate whether they belong to a “lower” or “upper” caste,” Red for Thevars, green for Dalits,blue for Nadars.
Tamil Nadu’s Tirunelveli is known for violent caste conflicts between the people who belong to the OBC category and the Dalits.
The wrist band is markers to tell children who is a friend and who is not.
Allegedly, these practices are enforce by students themselves and supported by influential caste persons and teachers,” the circular read.
Urging the senior officers to take appropriate steps to identify such schools, “Issue suitable instructions to headmasters to prevent such practice immediately and also take severe action on people responsible for the discrimination.”
The director said the circular is based on a representation given by officer trainees of the IAS 2018 batch.
